Long-time local residents Brett and Trudi Murray have launched Pelican Place, their first boutique land development at Jacobs Well on the Northern End of the Gold Coast.
Working with JV partners, Salt Development, the husband and wife team are offering eight flat blocks ranging in size from 842sqm to 872sqm for $A550,000 at 16 Pelican Parade.
Although launched just this week, one block has already gone unconditional and two are under contract. The development can be viewed at below.
Jacobs Well sits on the delta of the Pimpama River and is regularly described as the “gateway to Southern Moreton Bay”.
It is a tightly-held community that is home to less than 2,000 people who enjoy an abundance of parks, beaches and swimming and recreational facilities, including a four-lane boat ramp, which services the Volunteer Marine Rescue and it is an easy 40-minute commute to Surfers Paradise or Brisbane.
Pelican Place is approximately 10 minutes by car to Ormeau train station and Pimpama City, 15 minutes to Westfield Coomera and 45 minutes to both Gold Coast and Brisbane International Airports.
Brett recently sold 80% of his website, Speedcafe.com, which he built into the world’s leading independent motorsports news site over the last 14 years, while Trudi is a retired nurse.
“We have always had a passion for real estate and the timing was right for us to put a ‘toe in the water’ with a small development,’ said Brett.
“We have had a soft spot for Jacobs Well since we moved to the Gold Coast more than 30 years ago and believe the current infrastructure that is going into place, including the new Coomera Connector road system, will see the place boom. “We were conscious not to get greedy when we were putting our ideas together. “We wanted to create something pretty unique and price it right so that we could learn from the experience before deciding if development was for us.
“You simply can’t buy 850sqm blocks for anywhere near $550,000 on the Gold Coast and I think the early reaction indicates we have a solid offering that hopefully we can sell out in a short amount of time.”
Originally from the regional Queensland city of Toowoomba, Trudi nursed at Sydney’s Westmead Hospital before moving to the Gold Coast..
In recent years, she used her knowledge and passion for the health and aged care industry to develop a concept for the first LGBTI+ aged care facility in Queensland which was eventually built by ARCARE in the Gold Coast suburb of Parkwood.
“Our interest in property started in the late 90s when we did a few personal renovations,” said Murray, who was Queensland Nurse of the Year in 1998. “Pelican Place is really our first serious development and it has been quite a journey and education. The process has been helped by having a great JV partner, who has lived and breathed the project on site.
“The housing shortage in this country is currently a major topic of discussion and we hope that Pelican Place will do a small bit to help ease that, or at least provide options.”
The original Jacobs Well block was 7934sqm and consisted of an old two-story house, concrete water tank and a few fruit trees. “The property is in Perlican Parade at Jacobs Well, so we gave the development a nice title of Pelican Place,” said Trudi. “We gave it a catch line of “Spread Your Wings” to emphasise the size of the blocks.
“The development is adjacent to the Coomera River and close to one of the area’s biggest boat ramps. Our block size not only provides a decent housing footprint, but enough space for a shed for a boat or caravan and enough grass for the kids to kick a footy.
“We could have gone smaller, but we wanted to produce blocks that would allow buyers to design a lifestyle for themselves.
“We also wanted to price them right and I think we have done that with blocks half the size selling for more not that far from here.”
While the couple have not been at the wheel of any of the earth moving equipment, they has been involved with all parts of the development process, including the building of a boutique marketing campaign which has included the launch of a website www.pelicanplace.com.au, social media channels and an impressive video.
The Murray’s have engaged local Jacobs Well agents Trish Pearman from Belize Property to handle the day-to-day sales.
